A Quick Guide To Freelance Writing Jobs For Beginners

The freelancing world developed tremendously in the last years, and more and more young people prefer to be self-employed, than to go to an ordinary workplace. This, of course, has advantages and disadvantages, but one thing is for sure: anyone can do it. Even if some might think that it is a work only for the talented ones or only for your people, there are people specialized in many different fields and of all ages that work from home. If you want to get started, here are some tips to get your first jobs:

  • Establish your expectations. We know that you dream to have a great income even from the first month and to work with professionals all the time. Unfortunately, this is not possible no matter how much you try. You need to expect to have little to no income for the first two weeks and to need to accept even the worst jobs.

  • Since you don’t have any kind of experience, most of the clients will not risk to hire you for big and expensive projects. This means that you need to get a few small jobs, which are not paid very well until you can form your reputation and portfolio. If you do a great job, for sure in a few weeks, you can get something more substantial.

  • Create a profile on a specialized website. There are many websites on the internet that facilitate the communication between freelancers and clients and take care of the payment terms. To get jobs through these websites, you need to create a profile that will attract customers. This means your description needs to be on point, professional but relaxed and your profile picture needs to show you like an open, trustworthy individual. Stay away from any personal detail or slang words.

  • Create a portfolio. This is what makes clients hire you in the beginning, so you need to be able to provide a few samples of your own writing. Write a few articles on different themes and make sure to give them a perfect shape. By this, I mean that absolutely no grammar or punctuation mistake can be accepted. Even if you have talent and you write in a very engaging way, no client will hire a freelancer that has a bad grammar. If you are not sure that your writing is perfect, you can buy software from the internet that will proofread your articles.
