Freelance Writing Jobs: How To Set Your Time Properly
Most freelancers pursue writing jobs because they can work when they feel like it by choosing their own hours. Moreover, they can write from home or from wherever they want to. Sounds like a perfect job, doesn’t it? Except there’s one thing – deadlines! How do you organize yourself and avoid finishing your projects at the last minute, or even failing them? Use the following time management tips when you find yourself in a situation like this:

- Keep a calendar.
- Do not get distracted.
- Check emails twice a day.
- Map out your work time.
- Refuse when necessary.
- Handle the most difficult tasks first.
Both daily and weekly task lists are very important. Sometimes, it seems like you can keep everything in your head, but when time is running out, lots of things may easily slip your mind. Just plan out what has to be done and stick to it.
This is a great way to monitor when deadlines have to be met, especially when working on several projects simultaneously. Furthermore, it shows whether you can take up more assignments without overloading yourself.
The fact that you are working from home does not mean you can do some chores, babysit, or answer phone calls at the same time. If you do not want to work 24/7, learn to say ‘no’ to projects that you cannot fit in, clients wanting you to do something additional, friends calling to ask you out, and even family members demanding your attention sometimes. Otherwise, you will finish up late and risk failing the project. Be practical about the workload you can take and deal with.
